Local Reindeer Herder's Home Farm Visit with Lunch
Exclusive chance to visit a real local reindeer herder's home farm in Ivalo. Get to know the people and way of life of reindeer herding culture in this relaxed experience. Feed the reindeer by hand and learn to throw suopunki, the "lasso of Lapland". Enjoy warm drink by the fire outdoors and after the outdoor farm visit, we take you for a warming homemade soup lunch made for you by the herder family. If wished, it is also possible to buy local traditional handcrafts and reindeer furs from the farm, made by the villagers.
- Duration: 3–3.5 hours
- Departure: 10:00
- Pick-up: Included from Saariselkä & nearby areas
- Season: When reindeer are at the farm; January to March. Enquire for late December dates.
- Lunch menu includes traditional local reindeer stew soup as well as local bread, local beverages such as Finnish kvass-style drink, sour milk and water, and dessert coffee or tea with some homemade "kampanisu" pastry.
- Note: Unfortunately this experience is not suitable for people with dietary restrictions (menu above)
